The Manchester United first team star is set to leave the club ‘as a free agent’ next summer

Manchester United midfielder Christian Eriksen is reportedly set to leave the club as a free agent when his contract expires in June 2025.

Despite his recent return to the squad, Erik ten Hag, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano claims that no negotiations regarding a new contract with the Danish star are currently underway.

Eriksen, 32, has become an important figure in United’s midfield this season, starting seven of their last eight matches in all competitions.

He is expected to continue to play a key role in the upcoming games, including matches against Fenerbahce in the Europa League and West Ham in the Premier League, especially with Kobby Mainu out for a month.

Will Eriksen leave Manchester United next summer?

While Eriksen’s contribution has been vital in recent months, Romano reports it is “likely” the midfielder will leave Old Trafford on a free transfer at the end of the season.

The Denmark international will have the right to negotiate with foreign clubs from January, with no sign of negotiations over a contract extension.

β€œThere is currently no communication between the Manchester United board and Christian Eriksen regarding a new agreement,” Romano shared on social media, further fueling rumors of Eriksen leaving.

Eriksen is one of several Manchester United players whose contracts are coming to an end. Other big names include Victor Lindelof, Jonny Evans and Tom Heaton, while Harry Maguire and Amad Diallo could have their contracts extended by a further year due to clauses in their contracts.

With Eriksen’s future uncertain, Manchester United could face some difficult decisions in the next transfer window and squad rebuild.
