The U.S. Attorney has appointed county election officials who will handle complaints on Election Day.

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) – U.S. Attorney Sayler A. Fleming has named county election officials who will handle complaints on Election Day.

Assistant U.S. Attorneys Hal Goldsmith and Jennifer Roy will serve as members of the Board of Elections for the Eastern District of Missouri. They will be responsible for handling Election Day complaints regarding concerns about voting rights, threats of violence against election officials or staff, and election fraud. They will work in consultation with the Washington Department of Justice.

“Every citizen should be able to vote without interference or discrimination and have that vote counted in fair and free elections. Likewise, election officials and staff must be able to do their jobs without being subject to unlawful threats of violence. The Department of Justice will always work tirelessly to protect the integrity of the election process,” Fleming said.

In addition, the FBI will have special agents in every field office and permanent agency throughout the country to investigate allegations of election fraud and any other abuses on Election Day. Fleming said if there is a crime involving violence or intimidation, call 911 immediately. State and local police have primary jurisdiction over polling places and almost always have the ability to respond more quickly in emergency situations.
