SSDI October 2024: Last Check of the Month Approaches

The fourth and final Social Security Disability Security payment for October 2024 will be sent to recipients in the next couple of days. Last payments of the month are usually for beneficiaries born between the 21st and 31st of any month. We will explain more below.

The Social Security Administration sends monthly payments to people who typically have a disability that prevents or limits their ability to work. Depending on a person’s situation, others may also qualify for and apply for SSDI.

Payment schedule if you have had SSDI since May 1997 or earlier.

If you started receiving SSDI before May 1997, you will usually receive your payment on the third of each month. Please note that this is not always the case, for example when the third day falls on a weekend or holiday. Last March was such a month, and SSDI recipients received their payments two days early on the first day of the month.

For everyone else, payments depend on the date of birth.

If you started receiving SSDI after May 1997, your payment date is determined by the month you were born. Payments are generally made on the second, third and fourth Wednesdays of the month. What Wednesday you will receive your check is as follows:

Will COLA 2025 affect my payment?

Probably, but it depends. The 2025 COLA will impose a 2.5% increase in monthly benefits, but exactly how much will depend on several factors. Any monthly income, how long you receive benefits, and what type of benefits you receive may result in different benefit increases. Recipients will receive a COLA notice sometime in December with details about their case. A 2.5% COLA would add about $48 to the average benefit check when it arrives in January 2025.
