Former Bournemouth University student opens new restaurant: Pot and Grill

Manqiu Du is determined to contribute to the growing international cuisine market through her new restaurant.

There are a variety of cafes and restaurants inspired by a variety of cuisines throughout Bournemouth.

Taking all this into account, former Bournemouth University student Manqiu Du opened Pot and Grill – Asian Hotpot & Korean Grill.

Pot and Grill is relatively new to the market, having opened in February 2024, and Manqiu says he has a long journey ahead of him that is just beginning.

The restaurant, located on Old Christchurch Road, serves authentic traditional Chinese and Korean cuisine, including Hot Pot.

Hot Pot is a popular Chinese cooking method in which a boiling pot of broth is placed in the center of the table next to various raw ingredients, such as thinly sliced meats, seafood, vegetables, tofu and noodles, which the diners themselves cook in the broth.

Mangiu graduated in 2009 with a master’s degree in hospitality before opening her restaurant.

Discussing the reason for opening the restaurant, Mangiu said Daily Echo that it was intended to provide Bournemouth with “a wider range of international food options as the market grows”.

“The fact is that people love food. And when you are somewhere abroad, I am sure you will be appreciated more. Somewhere you can buy your own food, very traditional and very authentic. That’s what we based it on: very authentic food.

“And not only Asians, I must say that there are many clients, they are people from the West. Because this is something new for them. So they like to watch and try.”
