Broncos’ Sam Thaiday Ezra Mam enters rehab after failing roadside drug test

Brisbane great Sam Thaiday says he is concerned for Ezra Mam’s welfare after the young star checked into rehab on Monday.

The 21-year-old’s four-year contract with the Broncos is in jeopardy following reports the five-eighth was allegedly driving without a license and failing a roadside drug test.

Mama’s management confirmed he voluntarily entered a vocational rehabilitation center on Monday.

“Ezra is extremely remorseful,” his management’s statement began.

“He acknowledges that he has faced some personal challenges and has taken the proactive step of seeking immediate professional help following these recent events.

“We will continue to support him throughout this process and will not be making any further comment at this time.”

Thaiday says he is close friends with his mother and expresses concern for the boy’s well-being.

Thaiday admits Maguire has an important job ahead of him at Red Hill.

“Now he’s going to have to come in and set some standards. He also has a difficult decision to make and he doesn’t want to be left behind in the search for another midfielder at this stage of the season.”

Speaking to 4BC radio, Broncos chief executive Dave Donaghy could not guarantee what Mam’s future at the club would look like.

The Broncos star signed a lucrative five-year contract in February after a standout season.

“We haven’t had an in-depth internal discussion, but we don’t have the full facts,” Donaghy said.

“It would be remiss of me to get too far ahead of myself.
