CINCINNATI — A woman is charged with negligent homicide after she allegedly shot a man in the groin, according to court documents.

An affidavit filed in Hamilton County Municipal Court alleges that 77-year-old Kathleen Geiger shot 58-year-old Arthur Osborne in the “pelvic area.”

According to court records, Geiger said she and Osborne were “engaging in harmless banter” when he jokingly asked her to shoot him.

According to the documents, Geiger, believing her gun was not loaded, pointed it at Osborne and pulled the trigger.

Cincinnati police say they responded to a shooting around 7:47 p.m. Sunday night in the 2700 block of East Tower Drive.

Records say Geiger gave Osborne medical aid and called 911.

Police say Osborne was pronounced dead at the scene.

Geiger appeared in court Monday where her bond was set at $10,000.

At the arraignment, the prosecutor said her lack of belief that the gun was loaded was “not a defense.”

“Everyone who owns a firearm has a responsibility to do so responsibly. Never point a firearm at anything or pull the trigger unless you intend to destroy it. The defendant pointed a firearm at someone and pulled the trigger, causing his death,” one prosecutor said.

The next court date was set for October 31.
