Genesis reports 52% increase in thermal generation

Genesis reported a 52% increase in thermal energy production in the first quarter of fiscal 2025.

Huntly’s portfolio of coal, gas and diesel played a critical role in New Zealand’s winter energy security.

Despite high coal consumption, Genesis said its stock levels had increased, with 11 coal cargoes delivered to the ports of Auckland and Tauranga.

The number of customers also grew slightly, increasing by 0.4% over the same period.

As part of its Gen35 strategy, Genesis announced the purchase of a 65% stake in electric vehicle charging infrastructure operator Chargenet and provided an update on the construction of the Lauriston solar farm, as well as the development of the Huntly battery and Edgecumbe solar farm.
