CLINTON, New York – Hamilton College Luke Peplowski ’27 and Cole Vasiliev The 26th goal came as the Continentals cruised to a 2-1 non-conference victory over the University of Utica Pioneers under the lights at Withiam Field in Hamilton on Tuesday, Oct. 22.

Season Update

  • Hamilton improved to 6-5-3 overall.
  • Utica, which is a member of the Empire 8 Conference, moved to 2-9-6 for the season.

How it happened

  • Peplowski put the Continentals on the scoreboard in the 25th minute with a penalty after a foul in the penalty area was called Charles Hawthorne ’25.
  • Hamilton doubled the lead thanks to Vasiliev’s assisted goal Aedan Burke 26, 6:20 left in the first half. The Continentals recovered the ball in midfield, and Vasiliev passed it to Burke near the sideline. Burke danced around the defender and made a beautiful pass to Vasily, who fired a shot into the bottom right corner with his left foot.
  • Utica’s Anderson Velasquez cut the Pioneers’ lead in half with a goal in the 65th minute.
  • Hamilton created several scoring chances after the break, but Utica’s Zachary Accetta was effective in goal, making seven of his 11 saves in the second half.
  • The Continentals tallied a season-best 27 shots with 13 on target.
  • Hamilton held a 4-3 advantage in corner kicks.

  • Head coach Perry Nizzi recorded his 500th career win, including 291 at Herkimer County Community College.
  • Hamilton has won the Pioneers’ last 11 meetings.
