Sands Of Mali: at the center of controversy | Ballyhane Stud

The dispute between Classic winner owner Steve Parkin and his former racing and thoroughbred consultant Joe Foley over ownership of Sands Of Mali continued in the High Court on Tuesday.

Parkin and Foley, owner of Ballyhane Stud where Sands Of Mali are based, ended their relationship back in March. At the time, Clipper Logistics boss Parkin moved stallions Space Traveler and Asymmetric from Ballyhane Stables to Starfield Stables.

The court was told on Tuesday that Sands Of Mali, who is third in the first season’s Manufacturers’ Championship with 18 wins in Britain and Ireland, is valued at €2.4 million.

Parkin and UK-registered company Clipper BCS LLP say he bought Sands Of Mali for £270,000 (€323,000) in August 2020. He disputes Foley’s claim that the horse is 50/50 owned and argues that the horse was illegally and wrongly kept at Ballyhane stables.

The case, which came to the High Court last week, was returned to Judge Oisin Quinn on Tuesday where Robert Beatty SC, acting for Parkin, said the case could be adjourned to allow the defendants to file affidavits and plaintiffs could file depositions. any response evidence.

Remy Farrell SC, acting for Foley, said the unfortunate aspect of the case was that many of the details of the plaintiffs’ claims were eventually revealed, “but our affidavit contradicts much of what was said.” The case was adjourned and is likely to be heard next month.
