Strong winds tore down flames on six buildings in Dallas

Six buildings were damaged in a fire in an industrial park Monday night, officials said.

Dallas Fire Rescue responded at approximately 10:40 p.m. to initially telling 911 callers that grass or trees were on fire, but the first firefighters on scene found several pallets on fire in the 1700 block of Empire Central Drive.

According to a DFR press release, the fire was already in an “advanced stage” and due to high winds, it quickly spread to surrounding buildings, resulting in approximately 60 to 70 firefighters on scene within an hour.

The fire, which burned until Tuesday morning, was eventually contained to an area bordered by Empire Central Drive, Oakbrook Boulevard and Prudential Drive, but six buildings and a transfer station were already damaged.

As of 6 a.m., several firefighters remained at the scene, putting out the remaining flames.

No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is being investigated.

According to Oncor’s outage map, as of 7:15 a.m., only about 200 customers remained without power in the area of ​​the fire, but a representative on the scene told WFAA-TV (Channel 8) the agency had shut off power in the area. to protect firefighters while affecting up to 1,400 customers.

Dallas-Fort Worth has been at increased risk of fires recently due to warm, dry weather. The risk is expected to remain elevated this week as the forecast calls for no rain.
