The couple have been charged with first-degree child abuse.

SOMERSET, Ky. (WIMT) – A Somerset couple was arrested after police say an investigation determined they struck a child multiple times.

Police responded to a complaint Oct. 19 of a couple who was potentially abusing a child while he or she was in their care.

A detective with the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office received information that Alexander Pence, 34, and his wife, Tracey Pence, 34, both of Somerset, had struck a 2-year-old child multiple times in the face and head.

Both Alexander and Tracy Pence were arrested and taken to the Pulaski County Detention Center.

They were each charged with first-degree criminal abuse of a child 12 years of age or younger.

Police are continuing to investigate as they say more charges are expected. Anyone with helpful information can call the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office at 606-679-8477.
