Hamilton man arrested in connection with murder

Police have launched a murder investigation following the death of a 36-year-old man and the attempted murder of a 59-year-old man in Hamilton.

A 56-year-old man was arrested and the investigation is ongoing, officers said.

Police Scotland said an investigation was launched after it received a report of two men injured in the Burnbank center in the city at around 3.50pm on Monday 21 October.

A 36-year-old man died on the spot, a 59-year-old man was taken by ambulance.

Officers remain in the area and have closed areas of Whitehill Road and Purdy Street while they investigate.

Burnbank Center (Image: Google) Roads are likely to reopen Tuesday afternoon. Residents are asked to avoid the area.

Motherwell Police Station Superintendent Richard Taylor said: “We believe this was an isolated incident and there is no danger to the public.

“We have increased police presence in the area as we recognize this can be a very worrying and worrying time for the local community. Anyone with concerns is asked to speak to these officers.”
