Una DC imposes restrictions on hiring migrant workers in the district

Una Deputy Commissioner Jatin Lal has issued an emergency order directing the police to check migrant workers working in the district. The measure aims to improve public safety and prevent crime by ensuring that contractors and employers do not hire migrant workers without proper identification.

According to the order, a significant number of people visit Una district for trade and service work such as shawl selling, shoe making and utensil repairing. Many of these workers and service providers operate without background checks, complicating crime prevention efforts. The Deputy Commissioner warned that if action is not taken, it could lead to disruption of peace, threats to human life and damage to government property.

In response, the Deputy Commissioner, who also serves as the District Magistrate, directed that no contractor, employer or trader shall be allowed to engage migrant workers for informal or contract work unless the workers first provide their personal details, including a passport size photograph, local police for verification.

The order further states that any person visiting Una district for self-employment or informal employment must inform the SHO of his intention. Religious institutions and other establishments housing these individuals must also keep records and ensure police registration before allowing anyone to stay.

The local police have been ordered to closely monitor the activities of these workers and any violation of this order may attract criminal punishment under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Act 2023.
