Two Melbourne bars have just made it onto the list of the world’s 50 best bars for 2024.

What an amazing review! The list of the world’s 50 best bars for 2024 has been announced, including three Australian bars. In exciting news for Melbourne, Caretaker’s Cottage in the CBD came in 21st place and was officially named the best bar in Australasia for the year. The pint-sized champion also received Mitcher’s Art of Hospitality award. Geez, is there anything that Keeper’s Cottage can’t do?

Award-winning cocktail bar Byrdi wasn’t far behind in 35th place, while glamorous Sydney restaurant Maybe Sammy took the lead in 26th place. Congratulations to all three Australian bars for shining on the world stage.

The World’s 50 Best Bar Awards, which were announced at a ceremony in Madrid on Tuesday 22 October, are considered one of the most influential bar awards in the world, recognizing the best and brightest bartenders and drink lovers internationally. . The winners are selected by a respected global academy of beverage experts, bartenders and other top dogs.

Regarding Caretaker Cottage’s victory, the World’s 50 Best Bars paid tribute to the owners: “Rob Liebekans, Ryan Noreikes and Matt Stirling – all of whom have worked in some of the world’s best bars – are a rarity in that they all actually work in a bar. They don’t shout to the world about the pedigree of Caretaker’s Cottage, preferring to call it a simple local pub, and in atmosphere and design it is very much a neighborhood establishment.

The drinks menu changes every month, with new drinks introduced and a complete redesign, but two constants – a super-cold signature martini and a Guinness beer so delicious it’s the envy of local Irish pubs – remain the foundation.”
