Pat Carrigan talks about Ezra Mama, roadside drug test, Brisbane car crash, driving without a license, Brisbane Broncos, news, videos, highlights

Broncos star Pat Carrigan has described Ezra Mam as a “quality man” who has “something to work on” following his head-on collision in Brisbane last Friday.

Mam allegedly failed a roadside drug test and was driving without a license when he collided with oncoming traffic, with the four-year-old girl reportedly suffering a fractured hip.

Gun Five-Eighths is said to have been placed in rehab and police are awaiting the results of a follow-up drug test before filing any charges.

Carrigan, speaking on Channel 7, supported Mums during her stay at the Kangaroo camp on Tuesday.

“He’s very disappointed, he can’t comment, but yeah, the next step for him is to put things right, sort out some of the rehabilitation issues and move forward both for the club and for him personally,” Carrigan said.

“I know what kind of person he is, he’s a great young guy, he’s got a heart of gold and obviously he just made a mistake.”

The Mam incident is not the first off-field drama to make headlines for the Broncos, with playmaker and defender Reece Walsh’s trip to Bali filled with drama.

A complaint was made against the couple after a fan tried to film them but his phone was damaged and then replaced.

The incident has since been closed, with Walsh also being treated at a medical facility after being dragged over the top of the reef.

After a tumultuous season that saw the Broncos crash out of the finals race, Carrigan admitted: “We have some work to do as a club, and so does he, and he recognizes that.”

After the accident, Mam management released a statement saying: “Ezra is extremely remorseful. He is concerned primarily for the other parties involved and understands the enormity of the current situation.”
