Cornell Cooperative Extension appoints leader for critical issues in human nutrition, food safety, safety and obesity prevention

Cornell Cooperative Extension (CCE) has appointed Dr. Angela Odoms-Young as director of extension programs in human nutrition, food security and obesity prevention, effective October 1. This appointment is for two years. , reflects CCE’s commitment to leveraging campus resources and CCE faculty and staff throughout the state to ensure needs are met and key metrics and benchmarks are identified for educational work.

Odoms-Young will continue her work as the Schlegel Meinig Assistant Professor of Maternal and Child Nutrition at Cornell University, as well as director of the Community Food and Nutrition Education Program and the New York State Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program.

Odoms-Young’s research focuses on the social and structural determinants of eating behavior and health, particularly in low-income populations and communities of color. She has served on numerous advisory committees, including the Food and Nutrition Board of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, and has contributed to the development of nutrition standards for national programs such as the National School Lunch Program and the Women’s Supplemental Program.
