This Sydney bar has just been named one of the world’s 50 best bars of 2024.

Three Australian bars have made the World’s 50 Best Bars 2024 list, with award-winning glamorous Sydney bar Maybe Sammy coming in at number 26, meaning it has made the coveted list for the sixth year in a row.

Two Melbourne bars are also included in the spirit-soaked line-up: the super-sleek, Aussie-focused Byrdi, named the 35th best bar in the world, and the small Caretaker’s Cottage, housed in the former caretaker’s quarters of a nearby church. finishing in 21st place and taking home the cake for Australasia’s best bar of the year.

The World’s 50 Best Bar Awards, which were announced at a ceremony in Madrid on Tuesday 22 October, are considered one of the most influential bar awards in the world, recognizing the best and brightest bartenders and drink lovers internationally. . The winners are selected by a respected global academy of beverage experts, bartenders and other top dogs.

Sammy, the 15th overall pick in 2023, may be in The Rocks. Since opening in 2019, it’s captured the hearts of Sydneysiders and visitors alike with its exceptionally crafted cocktails created by white-coated bartenders, 1950s-inspired design and fun theatrical production (remember the bubbles?).

The World’s 50 Best Bars list states: “Sammy’s may have always set the bar high for his cocktails, but somehow manages to raise it with each subsequent drink menu. It’s a special kind of bar where you leave having had a better night and have a story to tell your friends the next day.”

Earlier this month, a long list of the world’s 50 best bars was announced, including mezcal Cantina OK! was named the 96th best bar in the world. Mexico’s Gatsby-themed Handshake Speakeasy takes 2024 gold.
