Wanted child predator later found along with another juvenile sentenced to 60 years in prison

COLLIN COUNTY, TX – A McKinney man was sentenced to 60 years in prison after being found guilty of two counts of sexual assault of a child and one count of indecent treatment of a child.

Cameron Moffett, 39, abused a minor over a two-year period starting when the victim was 14 years old, according to Collin County District Attorney Greg Willis. The child’s mother found text messages in which Moffett discussed and admitted to his actions.

The trial was originally scheduled for January 2024. Moffett was released on bail, but the day before his trial he cut off his ankle monitor and eluded authorities for two months. He was arrested by the Collin County Sheriff’s Office after he was found living with another woman and her 14-year-old daughter.

Moffett pleaded guilty to all charges and the jury gave him the maximum sentence on all three counts; 20 years each. The state’s request for the sentences to be carried out consecutively was granted.

“This predator thought he could escape justice, but thanks to the courage of a vigilant mother and the tireless efforts of law enforcement, he is now where he belongs,” said District Attorney Greg Willis. “This 60-year sentence ensures he can never harm another child and sends a clear message that we will not tolerate such heinous crimes in our community.”
