Illegal buildings removed from Gulshan Lake

On the instructions of Environment Advisor Syeda Rizwana Hassan, the authorities concerned on Tuesday evicted some structures illegally constructed at Gulshan Lake to free them from encroachments.

Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (RAJUK) and the Environment Department jointly carried out a drive to remove illegal structures from the lake, said a press release signed by Dipankar Bar, Public Relations Officer, Ministry of Environment.

The operation was focused on removing illegal structures from the lake as well as adjacent nurseries, tin sheds and bamboo and net encroachments from the lake area.

The purpose of the operation is to clean up the Gulshan-Baridhara Lake, which is recognized as an ecologically critical zone.

The action was conducted by Executive Judge Dr. Kamruzzaman of RAJUK.

Also present were Executive Judge Faizunnesa Akhtar from the Monitoring and Enforcement Division of the Department of Environment, as well as teams from the Dhaka office of the Department of Environment, RAJUK, and Vice President of the Gulshan Society Israt Jahan.

The Environment Department said such anti-pollution operations will continue.
