Perth Scorchers sign Indonesian pacer for 2024-25 WBBL season | Women’s Big Bash League 2024

Ni Made Putri Suwandevi’s economy rate (2.97) in T20Is is the best in the history of women’s cricket.

Perth Scorchers have signed Indonesian seamer Ni Made Putri Suwandevi as an opener for the upcoming Women’s Big Bash League season, which begins on October 27.

Suvandevi, who made her international debut in 2019, has 49 wickets in 42 T20Is at an average of 8.18. Her economic figure of 2.97 is the best in the history of women’s cricket.

The Associate Newcomer Rule allows clubs to sign players from associated countries and keep them outside their original 15-player squad. An associate rookie is eligible to replace an injured domestic player or unavailable national team player on the playing roster, but may be selected as a fourth national team player on any playing roster.

“I am thrilled to be joining the Perth Scorchers ahead of the WBBL | 10, in one of the best T20 competitions in the world. WBBL is a competition that I have admired from afar for a long time and I am looking forward to taking part as a player this season,” said Suvandevi.

“The Scorchers have been a successful club for a long time and I’m really excited about the opportunity to work with the playing group and coaches.”

The franchise’s press release said: “The signing of Suwandevi is the first success story of the recent partnership between WA Cricket and Persatuan Indonesia Cricket.”

Speaking about the signing, head coach Becky Grundy said: “We are delighted to welcome Tori to our team at WBBL|10, she is a fantastic talent with a bright future and we are thrilled to offer her the opportunity to join our team.

“I had the opportunity to go to Bali and watch her up close and was incredibly impressed with her both as a cricketer and as a person. Her determination and work ethic fit perfectly with our team culture and we are excited to see her continue to develop within the Scorchers environment.”

The Scorchers take on the Melbourne Stars on October 27 in their first game of the season.
