“Your team sucks”: David Tepper’s Panthers somehow keep getting worse

“Our trajectory is to find good football…”

For lovers Carolina Panthersthe bottom remains elusive. The franchise appears to have hit its lowest point towards the end of last season, when the irascible billionaire owner… David Tepper – the architect of the team’s seemingly endless downfall – showed his ass after an embarrassing loss to Jacksonville.

Although the worst was yet to come…

After a costly offseason rebuild that included new players, a new coach and a new general manager, another low was thought to have been reached earlier this year with the benching of the franchise quarterback. Bryce Young. Young, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 draft, showed anemia. 2-16 sign up for the starting lineup before being replaced by a journeyman veteran Andy Dalton.

However, for inexplicable reasons, Caroline’s condition is getting worse and worse… well, worse.

The final nadir? A humiliating 40-7 loss on Sunday to the Washington Commanders, who played without injured starting quarterback Jayden Daniels. Seriously, Carolina was butchered by reinforcements. Marcus Mariotawho hasn’t played in the NFL for two years.

After the last defeat Carolina (1-6) took second place. 30 of 32 NFL franchises in yards allowed per game (385.7) and were last in the number of points given per game (34.7). The Panthers are more than a touchdown worse than the second-to-last team when it comes to scoring — and have given up the second-fewest points in seven games of any team since 1970. No wonder there’s a shortage of sports reporters. adjectives—and historical context—to describe how terrible this defense has become.

The worst defense in the league is never good, but it’s even worse when you can’t move the ball or score points when you have the ball. Carolina is currently in fourth place. 29 in the NFL in yards per play (281.6) and No. 28 in scoring(15.7 points per game) – hardly the results Tepper expected when he brought in a “genius” as his main offensive genius. fourth head coach for six seasons (not counting temporary ones).

“Our trajectory is to find good football,” head coach Dave Canales – said after a humiliating defeat from the command. “This is the greatest challenge.”

Wait… will you come again? “The trajectory is to find good football?”

Canales’ statement (to the extent that he even understands what he said) speaks volumes. He says Carolina is so bad right now that the team doesn’t even know what good football looks like.

Tepper received similarly harsh reviews about the future of his franchise from the media following the loss.

“Your team sucks,” ESPN host Pat McAfee said on his last show.

“Sucks” is too kind, to be honest. And there’s no reason to think that’s going to change anytime soon as Tepper’s latest renovation comes crashing down around him. Under the “leadership” of a liberal hedge fund manager, the Panthers achieved disastrous results. 32-74 (.301) record is the worst in the NFL since 2018. During this period, they failed to make the playoffs or secure a winning season. And vice versa, in five years to Tepper bought the Panthers, the franchise took off 54-31-1 (.621) – made the playoffs four times and made it to Super Bowl 50.

As I noted last week, this is a “definite steady collapse” – and all of it can be attributed to the Tepper purchase and subsequent poor management of the team.

Carolina will try to find out next Sunday (Oct. 27, 2024) when the team heads to Empower Field at Mile High to take on Denver Broncos. Kickoff is set for 4:25 pm ET and will be broadcast by CBS. Stay tuned to see if Tepper’s team can go even lower…
