A Florida woman is accused of using Roblox to instruct a 10-year-old child to kill a 2-month-old baby by dropping him on a tile floor.

A Florida woman was accused of using the online gaming platform Roblox to instruct a 10-year-old child to kill a 2-month-old baby by dropping him on a hard tile floor.

Tara Sykes, 36, of Perdido Key, allegedly contacted a 10-year-old child through the social media site Roblox and then convinced him to commit violence, the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement Monday.

Deputies said the suspect also allegedly made numerous other demands on the child, including drowning the child in the bathtub and scolding him with boiling water.

She also told a 10-year-old child to use a knife to slit the throats of adults they were temporarily living with while they slept, authorities allege. She then allegedly ordered the child to douse the guardians’ bed with a flammable spray and set their corpses on fire.

The sheriff’s office said the 10-year-old child was “unable to follow instructions” from adults but allegedly harmed the infant.

The sheriff’s office said it was contacted Thursday by Gulf Coast Kids House, a children’s advocacy center, reporting that a 2-month-old infant “sustained serious injuries” after another child dropped him on the kitchen floor.

Sykes was arrested and charged with one count of attempted murder and aggravated child abuse.

She was booked into the Escambia County Jail on Friday, where she is being held without bond.

“I’ve been in law enforcement for over 40 years and I’ve never seen anything like this,” Escambia County Sheriff Chip Simmons said Monday.

“It really bothers me about the circumstances and the idea that someone could think that way, let alone order these actions. There’s really something wrong with her.”

Additional charges may be filed, authorities said.

According to court records, Sykes and her husband were previously arrested on May 28 after a Department of Children and Families investigator came to their home and discovered her 14-year-old daughter was 31 weeks pregnant and suffering from malnutrition.

Both Sykes and her husband admitted they knew their teenage daughter was impregnated by a 20-year-old boy, according to a probable cause affidavit reviewed by Law and crime.

The couple did not report a “known sexual assault” but allegedly threatened to kill the alleged rapist unless his grandmother paid $10,000, which she did, the affidavit states.

Sykes was charged with child neglect without causing serious bodily injury.
