J&K Police dismisses rumors that non-local workers are being asked to leave the Valley

Srinagar, October 22 The Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) Police on Tuesday dispelled rumors that the administration had asked non-local workers to leave the valley following the Gangangir terror attack that killed seven people.

The Kashmir Zone Police, quoting the IGP (Kashmir), said on the official website of X on Tuesday that the rumors being spread on social media that the administration is asking non-local workers to leave the valley are false.

“The Jammu and Kashmir Police is committed to providing security and creating a safe environment for all people to carry out their activities without fear or intimidation,” the police said.

Police also advised the public not to pay attention to such false information on social media.

The police objection followed former chief minister Mehbooba Mufti’s message on her X-handle: “After the barbaric attack in Sonamarg, there are reports that the local administration is putting pressure on non-local workers to leave the Valley immediately.

“While I understand their obvious feelings of panic, asking them to leave in this way is not a solution. This will only create more difficulties and send a very bad signal to the country.

“J&K recently witnessed peaceful elections free of terrorism and this knee-jerk reaction will only prove otherwise. It may also lead to resentment against Kashmiris working and studying in other states. Ask Chief Minister @OmarAbdullah and LG @manojsinha_ ji to intervene and at least give them enough time.”

Seven people were killed and four injured when two masked foreign terrorists fired at a work camp of APCO construction company in Gagangiri area of ​​Ganderbal district.

Among those killed were a local doctor and six non-local workers.

Workers were busy constructing the Gagangir-Sonamarg tunnel at Z-Morha on the Srinagar-Leh highway.

The tunnel is being constructed to make the Srinagar-Sonamarg road all-weather and to make Sonamarg a year-round tourist destination. This will help the local economy and also create jobs for local residents.

Meanwhile, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha announced voluntary assistance to the families of the victims.

APCO has released Rs 25 lakh as immediate relief to the next of kin of the victims.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Tuesday visited the family of local doctor Shahnawaz from Budgam district, who was killed along with six others by terrorists in Gagangir.

CM Omar Abdullah announced that the J&K government will bear all educational expenses of the slain doctor’s son.
