Sydney Sweeney’s move to Los Angeles “was the catalyst” for her parents’ bankruptcy and divorce

Sydney Sweeney’s parents put their marriage and finances on the line to support their daughter’s Hollywood dreams.

According to her, at about the age of 12, Sweeney convinced her parents to let her devote herself to acting full-time. Glamor.

To show them she was serious, she wrote a five-year business plan and presented it to her parents using a PowerPoint presentation. She was able to convince them, but now admits that the family’s eventual move to Los Angeles “was the catalyst” for their eventual divorce and bankruptcy filing.

Because the “Euphoria” star grew up near the Washington-Idaho border, Sweeney’s parents initially made the costly sacrifice of taking their daughter to Los Angeles for nearly two years of auditions.

The 38-hour round trip largely resulted in her only acting as an extra in projects.

Sweeney, 27, told how she was severely bullied by children in high school because of her acting ambitions, to the point where the police got involved.

“When are you going to come home and stop dragging your family to hellish town?” she remembered how people questioned her at that time. “When are you going to stop breaking up your family and spending all their money and just get a real job and live a real life?”

Although Sweeney’s parents decided to move to Los Angeles for their daughter, “it pushed them to their limits financially and emotionally.”

In 2016, her parents divorced and filed for bankruptcy. Although these difficulties deeply affected Sweeney, she was determined to become a successful actress as she felt she owed it to her parents.

“There was a point where I didn’t want to go home anymore, and it really upset me because I felt like a failure,” she told Glamor.

“I knew I could never fail because, I mean, in a very broad sense, my family really lost everything. They got divorced. Whether it was coming here, it was definitely a catalyst for it. . So I knew I had to succeed in some capacity so it wouldn’t be in vain.”

Recalling her humble beginnings, the White Lotus alumna added that her past struggles have helped keep her finances in order.

“I come from a family where I saw my parents lose everything and I am horrified by it. This fear will always be instilled in me. I know how to save money. I don’t just go out and spend money.”

The Emmy-nominated actress is now proud of her financial accomplishments, which include paying off her mom’s mortgage, flying her grandparents to Italy to visit her on set, and buying her uncle’s dream boat for the family lake.

Sweeney was recently spotted in Charlotte, North Carolina, where she looked unrecognizable on the set of his upcoming film, reportedly called Black Bear.

The starlet will play real-life boxer Christy Martin in her next Hollywood project.
