How a Navy SEAL caused a train delay

Commuters in New Zealand’s capital faced lengthy delays when a Navy SEAL landed in the middle of the train tracks.

The country’s Department of Conservation said on social media that commuter trains were delayed when the fur seal, also known as kekeno, was spotted in the middle of the tracks near Ngauranga, a Wellington suburb.

“Although the loose seal caused problems for public transport, many people were more concerned about the welfare of the animal, which was repeatedly reported to our hotline,” the report said. “A juvenile seal is not unusual in the Wellington area, however it was quite skinny and did not appear to be bothered by its predicament, which could indicate signs of fatigue.”

DOC said “the seal ultimately did not have to catch the train as DOC rangers took it to Wellington’s south coast where it was released safely away from people and dogs.”
