Jalen Hurts moved up to No. 1 on the NFL’s best players list after the Eagles’ win over the Giants.

Philadelphia Eagles star quarterback Jalen Hurts made history in Philadelphia’s 28-3 victory over the New York Giants in Week 7 of the 2024 NFL season.

Hurts entered the game against New York tied with San Francisco 49ers legend Steve Young for fifth place on the NFL list for career rushing touchdowns by a quarterback with 43. With two touchdowns on the ground against New York, Hurts moves ahead of Young and Otto Graham (44) for sole third place on the list.

Now, the only quarterbacks in NFL history with more rushing touchdowns than Hurts are Carolina Panthers legend Cam Newton (75) and current Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen (56 and counting). There’s a good chance that when all is said and done, Allen and Hurts will hold the top two spots on the roster as long as they can stay healthy.

Many detractors will point to the fact that many of Hurts’ rushing touchdowns came during Philadelphia’s famous “push,” which is true. But the results count the same whether they come at the end of a 30-yard dash or a run of just a few feet. Additionally, Hurts’ power is a big reason why the play has been such a success for Philadelphia over the years.

Hurts also added to his own record for most games with several rushing touchdowns for a quarterback in the game against the Giants. Now he has 13 such games.

Perhaps just as important as his two rushing touchdowns against the Giants was the fact that Hurts didn’t have a turnover for the second week in a row. Turnovers have been something of an Achilles heel for Hurts as of late, and it’s probably not a complete coincidence that the Eagles have won these last two games against Hurts without turnovers. Now they will just keep trying to move in the right direction.

“Everyone knows the kind of ball we can play,” Hurts said after the win over the Giants. “That’s why everyone is held to this standard. So the reality is you just have to keep rising.”

Philadelphia’s next test comes in Week 8 in Cincinnati against a Bengals team that is also riding a two-game winning streak. If Hurts can continue to play the way he has the last couple of weeks, the Eagles should be in a good position to come away with a third straight win.
