Townsend man charged in connection with double shooting in Fitchburg

A 32-year-old Townsend man faces multiple charges in connection with a fatal double shooting in Fitchburg Sunday night.

Jarrod Hegarty is charged with two counts of armed assault with intent to murder: assault and battery with a firearm, and possession of a firearm without an FID card.

Two people were shot outside 360 ​​Main St. around 6:40 p.m. Sunday, according to the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office. in Fitchburg. One person was pronounced dead at the University of Massachusetts Memorial Health Alliance on the Leominster campus. The second person was taken to the University of Massachusetts Memorial Medical Center in Worcester. He is in critical but stable condition, the district attorney’s office said.
