My Melbourne brings together four distinct voices, each interpreting personal and universal stories of identity and belonging through the lens of people from different backgrounds living in Australia. This unique cinematic project is the result of a joint initiative between IFFM and Film Victoria to encourage cross-cultural storytelling, which has seen emerging Melbourne filmmakers team up with these established directors to create a collection of thought-provoking narratives. The short films include “Emma” by Rima Das, “Jules” directed by Imtiaz Ali, “Nandini” by Onir and “Setara” by Kabir Khan. The films reflect various themes of diversity, including gender, race, sexuality and disability. The goal of the project was to be truly inclusive and share stories that are truly accessible to everyone.

Reflecting on the upcoming premiere of MAMI, Imtiaz Ali from his Jules segment said, “It’s an honor to present My Melbourne Indian audience at MAMI. The stories we told are not just about the diaspora, but about anyone who has ever felt displaced or yearned to belong. “Jules is a deeply personal film for me and I can’t wait for audiences in Mumbai to see it.”

Kabir Khan, who helmed Setara, shared: “Melbourne provided us with the perfect backdrop to explore the emotional complexities of our characters. It was an incredible experience working with new talent and the enthusiasm of our Melbourne team translated perfectly on screen. excited about this My Melbourne will now premiere in India on a respected platform like MAMI. Rima Das, the visionary behind the Emma segment, added: “What does My Melbourne The special feature is the sincerity of the stories.
