“Family Guy’s attack on The Simpsons was much worse than the other way around.”

Ever since “Family Guy” showed up to blast a “Simpsons” commercial on New Year’s Eve 1999, Matt Groening’s show has been throwing light-hearted jabs at Fox’s entire slate at their rival series every few years. But like everything The Simpsons has ever done, Seth MacFarlane copied it—just in a rougher, more drawn-out, and less funny way.

The “friendly” rivalry between Family Guy and The Simpsons stands in stark contrast to the animosity between Family Guy and other shows like South Park. While Trey Parker and Matt Stone set out to explain to their viewers why Family Guy was a low-level comedy in the classic two-part episode “Cartoon Wars” in 2006, The Simpsons writers decided to take a lighter approach to ridicule. a bizarre rip-off of their show with background gags and throwaway lines that did little more than acknowledge the “inspiration” behind the entire Family Guy premise.
