Teenage cyclist collides with car in Greenwich: police

GREENWICH, Conn. — A 14-year-old boy riding a bicycle collided with a vehicle in Greenwich Tuesday morning in the area of ​​Hillside Road and Fairfield Avenue, causing a road closure for about two hours, according to police.

At the time of the crash, the boy “probably was not wearing a helmet” and hit his head on the windshield of the car, police said. He was taken to Stamford Hospital for evaluation and treatment.

The incident occurred shortly after 7 a.m. Arriving officers determined that the boy was riding a bicycle on Fairfield Road and may have been attempting to cross the roadway to turn onto Hillside Road when he collided with a vehicle that was also traveling on Fairfield Road and turning. on Hillside, police said in a news release Tuesday afternoon.

The boy was conscious but disoriented when police arrived, police said.

During the road closure, buses changed routes. Greenwich High School, Greenwich Day School and Central High School are nearby.

The driver of the vehicle was at the scene when police arrived and was cooperating with the investigation, police said. There are no reports of injuries to the driver or passengers of the vehicle.

The investigation is ongoing and no charges have been filed at this time.
