On September 29 we celebrate the Day of St. Michael the Archangel, the patron saint of all police officers. This time also coincides with National Police Remembrance Day, when we honor the brave men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice for their communities. Let us express our gratitude to all serving and retired officers. Please join us in pausing to pray for those who have died in the line of duty.

I am honored to serve as one of the Queensland Police Chaplains. I’m here at St Michael’s Parish Church in Dorrington. It is appropriate to be here because on the feast of St. Michael, patron saint of all police, we celebrate National Police Remembrance Day. Today and always, we remember and thank those police officers who gave their all, who gave their lives to the noble service and protection of their communities. We also say thank you to all serving and retired police officers. Please let me pray.

Almighty God, whose great power and eternal wisdom encompasses the universe. Covers our hearts as we remember and thank the officers who gave their all, selflessly sacrificing for others. You know, they served with honor. Loving God, watch all the policemen. Give them strength, courage and perseverance to endure always. We entrust them all to your loving care, knowing that their duty is of vital importance.

Merciful God, grant them Your almighty protection, keep them safe with their families and friends after completing every duty. We also pray for the retired officers and know that You bless their service. We ask this prayer through Christ our Lord. Amen. Thank you for praying with us today.
