A stranger attacked a baby while it was being held by its mother in a shocking attack at East Victoria Park shopping centre.

A woman is wanted after attacking a toddler while she was being held by her mother in Perth, police say.

Security footage showed the two-year-old girl being punched in the face at Park Center in Victoria Park East about 1.25pm ​​on Tuesday.

The child suffered “facial injuries,” according to police.

“The woman approached the mother, who was holding the child, and then attacked the child and left the area,” police said.

“The woman is not known to either the mother or the child.”

The woman had a medium build, shaved head, and was wearing a pink tank top, gray shorts with white stripes and blue shoes.

Police are currently speaking to store owners and others who may have witnessed the incident.

One of the workers told 7NEWS that he heard screams and people running to help the mother.
