Mother and two children identified after tragic drowning in Sydney’s Georges River

A mother and her two children have been identified after their bodies were pulled from the water following a tragic drowning in Sydney’s south-west on Saturday.

Emergency services launched a search operation for the trio after they were called to the boat jetty at Shearer Park in Lansvale just before 10.15am.

The 32-year-old woman, identified as Hoai Nguyen, was soon pulled from the Georges River. CPR was performed on the woman, but she could not be revived.

Two children were seen in distress in the river. A search operation involving Maritime Command, PolAir and SES continued until around 2pm when the bodies of 7-year-old Mitchell and 5-year-old Hazel were recovered from the water.

The father is grieving over the tragedy and his friend Sarah Vu has set up a fund to help raise funds for the funeral and support him in raising the one-year-old child he shared with Ms Nguyen.

“I speak to you at a time of unimaginable sorrow. A beloved mother and her two young children tragically drowned in Lancevale today, leaving behind a deep void in our hearts, as well as a father and child who is just 1 year old,” – charity event. said.

“I am fundraising on behalf of Hoai (32), Mitchell (7) and Hazel (5). We hope to raise funds for the funeral and to help my father… during this time of grief.

“Every contribution, no matter how small, will make a significant difference. Thank you very much!”

More than $45,000 has already been raised, exceeding the $40,000 goal through more than 800 donations.

Fairfield Police Station Acting Superintendent Luke Scott told reporters on Saturday that police were investigating “the circumstances surrounding how these people got into the water.”

“I know they visited the park a little earlier, before it was known they were in the water,” he said.

It is also believed that the woman and her children were standing on a pier along Floyd Bay on the Georges River before entering the water.
