Warmest day in Melbourne since March

Warmest day in Melbourne since March

Anyone who has ever been to the Spring Carnival races will know that the maximum temperature in Melbourne is just as likely to be 12°C with hail as it is 32°C in full sunshine between mid-October and early November.

This Tuesday is one of those mid-spring days where temperatures will be on the high end of the scale, with a maximum of 32C expected in Melbourne.

This will make it Melbourne’s warmest day in seven months, with temperatures reaching 30C for the first time since March 18.

Temperatures will also top 30C across much of Victoria, with Mildura expected to reach a maximum of 36C as a relatively brief burst of warm air passes through the state ahead of an approaching cold front.

There’s not a lot of spice on that front. The front will barely touch southern Victoria, Wednesday’s weather map shows, although it will hit Tasmania directly, where some snow can be expected at the highest levels midweek.

But winds will still lean south and bring much cooler air to the mainland, especially later in the work week.

Maximum temperatures in Melbourne will drop to 21C on Wednesday with a few mostly light showers, then to a much cooler 16C and 17C on Thursday and Friday respectively.

This Saturday, racegoers can look forward to a very pleasant and mostly sunny 23C on the Cox Plateau in the Valley – which will be ideal weather for anyone forking out big bucks to suit up this time around.
