Brisbane star Ezra Mam was allegedly driving without a license before he was involved in a head-on collision and failed an initial roadside drug test.

The mum is facing an investigation by the NRL’s integrity unit into the incident in the Brisbane suburb of Bardon on Friday night after he was detained by police and taken to hospital for further assessment.

The 21-year-old had a head scan in hospital after being struck in the crash, but was later discharged with the injury not believed to be serious.

Injuries to the occupants of the other vehicle are also considered non-serious.

But hitting mom on the head may be just the beginning of the five-eighths’ troubles.

The Broncos star underwent initial roadside drug and alcohol tests which were said to be positive for drugs.

He was then ordered to take a second drug test using blood samples and police awaited the results.

Mom has not yet been charged.

“The man was subjected to a roadside drug test which was said to be positive,” Queensland Police said in a statement.

“He was detained for further examination requiring blood to be drawn at the hospital.

“The sample is then sent for analysis. This testing may take several weeks.

“Testing is being done independently of the QPS (Queensland Police Service). QPS is unable to comment further while we await the results.

“It will be alleged that the 21-year-old man was not licensed at the time of the incident.”

The Broncos immediately informed the NRL’s safety department on Friday evening after their welfare officers arrived at the scene of the crash.

“Broncos player Ezra Mam was involved in a road traffic accident in Brisbane late last night,” the Broncos said in a statement.

“He was taken to hospital for treatment of minor injuries and released last night.

“The Broncos informed the NRL Integrity Department of the matter last night. No further comment will be made on this matter at this stage.”

It is the second drama to plague Mam since the horror season ended in Brisbane, after the NRL investigated interactions between him, Reece Walsh and a fan in Bali last month.

It has already been a tumultuous off-season for the Broncos, who parted ways with coach Kevin Walters last month after crashing out of the 2023 grand final and finishing 12th this year.

Michael Maguire has since been appointed as the club’s new manager and could do without the latest problem.

Roadside drug testing has become a real problem for the NRL this season.

Cronulla playmaker Braydon Trindall tested positive for drug and alcohol driving in May and missed five games.

Canterbury player Josh Addo-Carr also missed the Bulldogs’ final defeat to Manly due to a positive roadside drug test.

Addo-Carr remains on the wing at Belmore following the tests and is expected to be released by the club, with the NRL suspension still hanging over his head.
