EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — It didn’t take long for Saquon Barkley to find out how he’d be greeted upon his return to MetLife Stadium on Sunday.

He was booed every time he touched the ball, although Barkley said earlier this week that he didn’t expect Giants fans to boo him. But many, including former Giants running back Tiki Barber, believe Barkley betrayed them by signing with the Giants’ NFC East rivals, the Eagles.

And this was obvious from the very beginning.

It took Barkley longer to get into the offense. He had just 17 yards on his first 7 carries of the second quarter, and the Eagles went through their sixth straight game without scoring a point in the first quarter this season.

But he finished with 176 yards on 17 carries as the Eagles won 28-3.

But Barkley’s 55-yard run set up the Eagles’ first touchdown, and AJ Brown added a 41-yard touchdown run on 4th-and-3, helping the Eagles outscore the Giants 14-3, who made a field goal. 5 seconds left. in the first half.

Meanwhile, the Eagles defense played well. They sacked Giants QB Daniel Jones 5 times in the first half, matching their game-high set last week.

But the Eagles have other problems. They were already without left tackle Jordan Mailata, who was placed on injured reserve Friday. They lost right guard Mekhi Becton to a concussion in the first quarter.

Cornerback Darius Slay was injured late in the first half.

And Jalen Hurts himself was sacked 4 times in the first half.

Hurts was 8 of 10 for 98 yards and a touchdown in the first half. Barkley had 75 yards on 9 carries and 10 yards receiving.

“One of these days we’ll start fast,” Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore said. “It’s something we’ve put a lot of time and effort into, continuing to work and develop and find our place there because it didn’t happen. It’s that simple.”

Sunday was not that day.

The Eagles already have seven sacks through three quarters Sunday, one more than they had through the first four games of the season.

Jalen Carter and Nakobe Dean each have two. Nolan Smith, Bryce Huff and Josh Sweet each have three.

Saquon Barkley’s second big run of the game, this time 38 yards, set up the Eagles’ third touchdown, giving them a 21-3 lead with 7:03 left in the third quarter.

Barkley’s run came on 1st-and-10 from the Eagles’ 49 to the Giants’ 13. Jalen Hurts finished the game with a 1-yard plunge. Barkley currently has 135 yards on 16 carries.

It took Saquon Barkley until the second quarter before he and the Eagles offense could be tracked. Barkley had just 17 yards on 7 carries before he broke free and ran 55 yards for a 19-yard gain early in the second quarter. Barkley then capped the play with a 3-yard run to give the Eagles a 7–0 lead with 8:58 left in the second quarter.

A few minutes later, Hurts hit AJ Brown from 41 yards out on 4th-and-3, giving the Eagles a 14-0 lead with 4:27 left.

The Eagles finish another first quarter scoreless. The Eagles were the only NFL team without scoring in the first quarter and through five games. Now it’s 6. Indeed, it’s 8, dating back to last season, the third-longest in team history.

The Eagles didn’t come close this time. They crossed midfield on their final possession to get to the Giants’ 48. But Barkley, lined up in a wild formation, lost 3 yards on second down and Jalen Hurts was sacked on third down.

Tight end Dallas Goedert, who is tied for the team lead in receptions with 24, is among the Eagles’ inactives against the Giants. But cornerback Darius Slay, who was listed as questionable, is playing. So is safety Sydney Brown, who was removed from the PUP list on Saturday.

The Eagles’ other inactive players are QB Tanner McKee, CB Eli Ricks, defensive back Darian Kinnard, punter Trevor Keegan and cornerback Byron Young.

Eagles remove Sidney Brown from PUP list

The Eagles have removed Sydney Brown from the physically unable to perform list. Brown could make his debut in 2024 on the same MetLife Stadium field where he spent his 2023 season. Brown tore his ACL that day. The Eagles have a roster spot open after LT Jordan Mailata went on IR with a hamstring injury.

The Eagles also promoted OL Jack Driscoll to the practice squad. This is his second of three permitted climbs.
